Description
4Star - Room Only.
A first class welcome awaits you at our family home. Denewood was built in the late 1920’s as a three bedroom semi detached house to satisfy the need for new houses in Castleton. It was a family home for various locals over the years.
This property offers 3 en-suite rooms with TV, tea and coffee, hairdryer etc. Breakfast is offered at a local hostelry 600 yards away. Children and well behaved dogs welcome. Situated on the edge of the village, this is an ideal base for exploring or just relaxing and taking it easy in front of the fire.
The guests lounge is always at your disposal, whether you want to watch TV or a DVD, read a book, write postcards, play games or just sit in front of the log burner with a glass of wine (we can provide the glass and the corkscrew but you will have to provide your own wine!)
The "Upper Styx" twin or kingsize en-suite room is a comfortable first floor room looking out onto the local hillside. The room has a good sized en-suite shower room, a colour TV with Freeview, tea and coffee-making facilities, clock radio and a hairdryer and plenty of space to relax in. If you're travelling with the children, we can put in a third bed or a travel cot so you can keep an eye on your little treasure.
The "Lower Styx" double en-suite room is a comfortable ground floor room. The room has a good-sized en-suite shower room, a colour TV with Freeview, tea and coffee-making facilities, clock radio and a hair-dryer and plenty of space to relax in.
The "Inner Styx" En-suite Room is a little smaller than the other rooms, but still offers the same home from home comforts. The room has an en-suite with a huge shower, double bed, a colour TV with Freeview, tea and coffee-making facilities, clock radio and a hair-dryer. Why not give it a try.
Denewood first came into our family in 1974. My grandfather, Eric Savage had worked for the Duchy of Lancaster (the Queens Estate) since the early 1950’s as the custodian of Peak Cavern and upon his retirement in 1974 the Duchy bought Denewood as a home for Eric and Betty to retire into. This is the reason you see a lot of old Peak Cavern prints around the house.
When Eric died in 1981, Betty moved into a house at the other end of the village and the Duchy rented the house as part of the Peak Cavern Estate.
On the 5th of May 2006 we bought Denewood from Her Majesty the Queen. Denewood had been rented out now for nearly a quarter of a century. The walls were mouldy, the carpet was damp and the house had seen very little love and care.
We sought planning permission and extended it to what you see now. We opened our home to guests in October 2007.
We look forward to meeting you.
